Kimberley English
The ‘Remote’ Australian English corpus has been collected in the vicinity of Halls Creek, and Kununurra, in the east Kimberley region of Western Australia. The Kimberley generally has a low population density so Halls Creek and Kununurra are small towns. A substantial proportion of the Kimberley population is Aboriginal (41.6%). Although the non-Aboriginal population of these towns can be quite transient, for the most part, participants in these conversations are ‘Anglo’-Australians who have lived within the region for at least fifteen years.
