Two Language Snapshots on Jaru and Gija have just been published in Language Documentation and Description:
de Dear, Caroline, Francesco Possemato & Joe Blythe. Gija (East Kimberley, Western Australia) – Language Snapshot. Language Documentation and Description 17. 134–141.
Dahmen, Josua, Francesco Possemato & Joe Blythe. 2020. Jaru (Australia) – Language Snapshot. Language Documentation and Description 17. 142-149. London: EL Publishing.
These Language Snapshots are an important contribution for the study of endangered and underdocumented languages. They provide an overview of Gija and Jaru, including their history, as well as their cultural, social, and geographical context. The two Snapshots also summarise the body of research up to date, and report on latest research directions (e.g. CIARA!). The Jaru and Gija Snapshot will also be a useful reference tool that will integrate other resources such as Glottolog and Ethnologue.
